our town of Amherst |
Amherst is a lovely little town located in the Pioneer Valley (aka the Happy Valley) in western Massachusetts. It's population swells and shrinks with the influx and breaks of college students attending the University of Massachusetts, Amherst College, and Hampshire College. With the presence of these schools comes lively and diverse cultural activities shared with the town residents. The town itself provides a multitude of entertainment, a diverse mix of restaurants and spas, some unique shopping, and a great many places to walk and hike and experience the beauty of New England. Amherst is also home to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art (https://www.carlemuseum.org) and the Emily Dickinson Museum (https://www.emilydickinsonmuseum.org). In fact, Emily Dickinson rests peacefully in the cemetery just behind the Toy Box .... so plan a visit if you wish. Amherst is fortunate to have a strong Business Improvement District (BID) that was established to promote business and cultural activity and to create a thriving, accomodating desination for visitors and the local and regional communities. Check out their site for additional details about the myriad of downtown Amherst businesses and other attractions. (https://www.amherstdowntown.com/home)
