Clown Anemone fish live near the reefs in the warm waters to the northwest of Australia. Their relationship with poison anemones is incredible. Both species benefit, as Clownfish clean the anemones and receive protection from predators in return.
History: The Great Barrier Reef, where Clownfish and other colorful reef dwellers live, might be 20 million years old. It’s made of layers and layers of coral, new on top of old, alive on top of dead, and it stretches for 1800 miles off the coast of Australia. Although Clownfish are abundant, endangered species such as the Green Sea Turtle and Dugong also make their homes in the Reef.
Scientific Name: Amphiprion percula
Characteristics: Sporting the three white stripes for which clownfish are famous, these adorable figures are ready to swim into your birthday or school party, or they’d make delightful additions to a reef project or Australia study.
Size: These Clownfish mini figures are about an inch long, or about the length of a paperclip.
