Tyrannosaurus rex means tyrant lizard king, and its massive size and long teeth live up to the billing. Making its home in North America, T-rex used powerful jaws and knife-like teeth to crush bone and tear meat. T-rex may have been both hunter and scavenger.
History: 65 million years ago, Tyrannosaurus rex was at the top of the food chain, one of the most iconic apex predators in the entire natural history of earth. Then, in a geologic flash, the mighty king was no more. Scale is everything when considering the huge spans of geologic time that make up the era of dinosaurs. In fact, we are fewer years away from when the last T-rex roamed North America than T-rex was from Stegosaurus.
