History: Flamingoes are thought to have appeared around 30 million years ago, and they are related to storks, herons, and ibises, and other long-legged birds that live near water. Scientists have long struggled to classify flamingoes because they share traits with such a wide variety of other birds. They have bone structures similar to storks, egg composition like herons, and behavior patterns resembling those of geese.
